Catherine the second also known as Catherine the great ruled Russia during the 18th century.
Absolutism: where the monarch hold all power over every aspect of life
Catherine the second was born May 2, 1729. She became empress of Russia in 1762. She later died on November 17, 1796. She was married to Emperor Peter the 1st. She also had a son Paul the 1st.

As empress she was a absolute monarch because she had the power to do everything and did what she wanted and was limited by others.
Some of her major achievements were Education reforms, creating the Nazak, created a legislature made of all the classes, and gaining land for Russia
Catherine gained land in Poland, Crimea, and the Black Sea through war with multiple empires.
She later died November 17, 1796. Her son Paul the 1st became emperor of Russia.
History thinks of Catherine the great positively because of what she did to help Russia become a world power.
