The mariner kills the bird that brings the breeze. The other sailors become angry at the mariner for killing the bird. when the others find out that the bird did not bring the breeze, all the sailors are happy with the mariner.

Symbol, The Albatross. The Albatross is the symbol because all the sailors believe that it brings the wind, and the wind is what moves their ship.

The Albatross hanging around the mariners neck. "instead of the cross,the Albatross about my neck was hung." The mariner is being punished for killing the bird that everyone believed brought the wind.

Theme, the theme of the section is the mariner being punished for the crimes he has done.
