What is bullying?

WHAT IS IT?

• Bullying is acting in ways that scare or harm another person.
• Bullying starts in elementary school and becomes most common in middle school.
• By high school, it is less common but still happens.

• Physical harm, such as hitting, shoving, or tripping.
• Emotional harm, such as making fun of the way a child acts, looks, or talks.

STATISTICS

• 64 percent of children who were bullied did not report it; only 36 percent reported the bullying
• The reasons for being bullied reported most often by students were
• - Looks (55%)
• - Body Shape (37%)
• - Race (16%)

Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.

1 in 4 teachers see nothing wrong with bullying and will only intervene 4% of the time.

Approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying.

1 in 10 students drop out of school because of repeated bullying.
