WHAT DIWALI CELEBRATES
- Diwali is an ancient hindu festival
- It is the festival of light
- It celebrates the victory of good over evil
Rama-Chandra who is the seventh avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu won a battle against the demons during 14 years of exile.
WHEN IT IS CELEBRATED
- It marks the begining of the new year
- It is celebrated on the 15th of Kartika (october/november)
- It lasts about 5 days
- It starts two days before diwali
- It finishes two days after diwali
ANGKOR
- It is a region of Cambodia
- It serves as the seat for Khmer Empire
- The word angkor means city
HOW ITS CELEBRATED
- Befor diwali hindus clean and decorate their homes
- Hindus usualy dress up in their best clothes
- They light diayas (lamps and candles) outside their house
- The family participate in puja (prayers)

- There is a fireworks display after puja
It is also celebrated with a family feast including Mithai (sweets) and friends and family give each other gifts
The swastika represents four arms going in different directions.
The om is the Hindu symbol and it is the most sacred sound and greatest of all mantras, it is sometimes associated with Diwali.
