Years ago penguins use to be able to fly, but most of their food being in the water, they adapted to be amazing swimmers and lost their ability to fly. Penguins also have extremely sharp beaks.
To stay warm in the cold, penguins have thick skin and also a lot of fat, also known as blubber. Their bodies are streamlined to help reduce drag in the water, their wings are also shaped as flippers. Their flippers help them swim up to 15 mph
Penguins only lay one egg, Emperor and King penguins sometimes lay two eggs, having a better chance of a chick surviving. Penguins have to breed in more than 50 degrees below zero. The Humboldt penguin have to breed in burrows made of guano, also known as poop. To prevent the egg from freezing, the penguins burrow the egg under their feet to keep it warm.
Penguins have large heads, with short necks. Their feet are webbed and their legs are set far back on the body. They also have a dark dorsal and a white ventral
Penguins biggest predators are on the land, they consist of lizards, skuas, snakes, other birds, and ferrets. Not only do they have land predators, they also have water predators. Their water predators consist of killer whales, leopard seals and also sharks.
