PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CAL-SOAP

STUDENT OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS PROGRAM
The specific region of this program is the Central Valley Cal-SOAP.

Central Valley Cal-SOAP is a program of the California Student Aid Commission, established in 1978. We serve middle school and high school students in Kerman, Golden Plains, Mendota, and Firebaugh Las Deltas school districts.

This picture is of the Kerman High School graduate class of 2016! It is one of the districts we serve as part of Central Valley Cal-SOAP.
We are 1 out of 15 programs in the state of California that serve middle school and high school students with financial aid application assistance, classroom and after school tutorials, advising, outreach, college awareness and much more!

Our mission is to educate, empower, and encourage students and their families to access all opportunities to higher education.

This is a picture of Firebaugh High School students and their parents participating with Cal-SOAP on a field trip exploring their sons’/daughters’ post-secondary education options.

Cal-SOAP is instrumental in improving the flow of information about post-secondary education and financial aid as well as raising the achievement levels of low-income, elementary, and secondary school students residing in geographic regions with documented low-eligibility, college participation rates, and who are first in their families to attend college.

CASH4COLLEGE

  • One of the big events hosted and facilitated by Cal-SOAP starts October 1 through March 2 Deadline
  • Students and families can attend FREE Cash for College workshops across California for help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act (CADAA) and Chafee Grant for Foster Youth applications.
Cal-SOAP hosts these workshops throughout the year before the deadline. Majority of these are hosted at the school sites we serve.

Our staff/team is trained on being financial aid literate and having extensive knowledge about post-secondary options as well as how to dress, act, and communicate with students, parents, and faculty within our community.

We have a great team of young individuals most who are currently attending college as graduates and undergraduates. A lot aspire to be future counselors and educators. We have monthly staff meetings and trainings that help us stay updated on any recent changes or new information that is beneficial in serving our students.
