Geologic History:
It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate meet in Western California.

Creation

  • North American Plate and Pacific plate meet at a transform boundary
  • As the plates grind past each other earthquakes begin to happen and can still happen today
  • The fault extends to depths of 10 miles into the earth and is made of broken rock

Catastrophism or Uniformitarianism:
The San Andreas Fault could be both because the plates are grinding past each other and at any moment there could possibly be and earthquake.
