• The fault extends to depths of 10 miles into the earth and is made of broken rock

The San Andreas Fault could be both because the plates are grinding past each other and at any moment there could possibly be and earthquake.

The San Andreas fault is a destructive process because and any moment there could be an earthquake that could destroy landscapes and cities.
