PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Goal Setting Project

By Max W.

My top 4 goals:

  • Help my JV Quiz team win the tournament this school year.
  • Finish swim team and be able to swim 50 meters in 60 seconds or less
  • Run a mile in 8 minuets
  • Eat 5 fruits/vegetables a day

Goal One:

Help my JV Quiz team win the regional competition

Untitled Slide

  • To achieve this goal I will need to study and practice with my team on the days we review (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
  • I will re-assess myself to see if I have achieved this goal after the tournament (spring 2017)

Untitled Slide

  • Obstacle that may hinder my goal: The other people on my team might not know the answers
  • Solution: Give people advice on how to study, develop a way for us to know if anyone knows the answer so only the person who will get it right will answer

Untitled Slide

  • If I finish my goal I will feel proud because it will mean our team is the best in the region, and we may be able to move on to other, higher up competitions
  • If we don’t beat the competition I will feel sad that we weren’t the best, but I will also know that we did our best and be happy because of that.

Goal Two:

Finish Swim Team and swim 50 meters in 60 seconds

Untitled Slide

  • In order to achieve this goal I will have to go to every practice I can. I will also need to learn how to get into the right mindset for swimming.
  • I will check to see if I can swim 50 meters in 60 seconds when Swim Team finishes in August

Untitled Slide

  • An obstacle that may hinder my progress is that swimming can be very exhausting
  • I can overcome this obstacle by practiceing at swim team and when we go to the pool on other days

Untitled Slide

  • When I finish this goal I will feel glad that swim team is over; I will also feel proud that I can swim 50 meters faster than my dad.
  • If I can’t swim 50 meters in 60 seconds by the time I finish swim team I will be sad I didn’t reach my goal by my expected time, but I will know that I can still improve when I go to the pool casually.

Goal Three:

Run the mile in 8 minutes

Untitled Slide

  • I can decrease my mile by practicing running on the days I don’t have swim team (Mondays and Fridays).
  • I will re test my mile at the end of this class, 3 days from now

Untitled Slide

  • An obstacle that might hinder my progress is that I don’t get a lot of chances to practice running
  • I can overcome this by asking my mom if I can go to the YMCA more often to practice

Untitled Slide

  • When I achieve this goal I will be proud of myself and also feel confident because I will know that I can improve myself and become better.
  • Like swimming, if I can’t run a mile in 8 minutes by my goal date I will be sad but I will know that I can still practice

Goal Four:

Eat Five fruits and vegetables a day.

Untitled Slide

  • I can eat 5 fruits/vegetables a day by incorporating them into my diet (put them in my meals, eat them as snacks, etc.)
  • I will see how well i have done with this goal in a month’s time

Untitled Slide

  • An obstacle I may encounter is that we may not have enough fruits/vegetables for everyone’s needs
  • I can overcome this by asking my mom to get extra fruits/vegetables at the store

Untitled Slide

  • When I finish with this goal I will feel happy because I will have made healthy food decisions. I will also just feel good because fruits and vegetables taste good.
  • If I somehow can’t eat 5 fruits/vegetables every day I will mainly be sad because I will have missed a lot of tasty snacks and sides.

I think it is important to set goals because they help us in several ways. For one, they help us improve ourselves because we set goals that make us a better person or better at something. Also, they help us learn skills like perseverance and self-examination which help in other aspects of life as well. Finally, even if we don’t achieve our goals we always have an objective to work to, something to keep us moving in life and not just shutting down into the same boring old routine. This is why I think it is important to set goals.
