- Serious or grave matters
- Called mortal, because it is a "spiritual" death
- Mortal sin much meet 3 criteria

- Serious matter
- Sufficient reflection
- Free will
POSSIBLE MORTAL SINS
- Abortion
- Adultry
- Cruelty towards animals
- Bigotry
VENIAL SIN
- Performed action does not condemn one to hell
- These are the sins that accrue one time in Purgatory
- They do not have to be confessed in confession, but advised

WHAT ARE IMPERFECTIONS?
- -Sometimes venial sins can be misconstrued as imperfections. -Imperfections are not sins at all, it is to be human. -It is not recognized as a Church term -They are called imperfections because sometimes it can be very difficult to distinguish between an imperfection and a venial sin.
VENIAL SINS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT
- -failure to accept that hell is real and that God allows for people to go there after death -trying to control things, rather than seeking Gods will. -being angry at God -cursing thoughtlessly -taking advantage of others for own self purpose -intemperance to alcohol, food, other substances -gossiping,lying, bragging
