PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GENDER INEQUALITY

By: Delaney Nidiffer

WHAT IS IT?

  • Gender inequality is defined as the unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender.
  • Examples: violence, professional obstacles, and access to education.

A WOMAN'S STRUGGLE

  • Rape culture
  • Women taught to defend themselves rather than men taught not to attack
  • Being branded as a "feminazi"
  • Wage gap

A MAN'S STRUGGLE

  • Being branded as "girly" for showing their feelings
  • Making boys feel lesser for not conforming to society
  • Valuing dominance and strength over sensitivity

WHAT IS THE CHURCH DOING?

The Catholic Church is moving slowly when it comes to women's rights and gender equality, but have come a long way since Old Testament times.

How can the Church be one if half of it's members are not treated as equals just because of gender? It can't. Which is why women are not seen as separate in God's eyes. The Church, no matter how slowly, is following suit.

WHAT CAN THE CHURCH DO?

I'm proposing the Church start a Gender Equality activist group to help lessen the struggle of women and men facing these obstacles

HOW CAN WE HELP HERE?

I challenge Cathedral students, boys and girls alike, to stop using hateful words when talking about women.

By making language like this the social norm, we are single-handedly building up the patriarchy and putting women down.

LET'S LEAVE GENDER ROLES IN THE PAST AND LOOK FORWARD TO AN EQUAL FUTURE.
