WATER TREATMENT

DIFFERENT FACTS ABOUT MINNESOTA'S WATER TREATMENT

Where and how is water treatment used in Minnesota?
Water treatment plants are used throughout Minnesota to make lake water safe to drink. The water goes through multiple steps for it to be drinkable.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE LAWS/REGULATIONS REGARDING WATER TREATMENT

  • Must meet the clean water act's (CWA) regulations for the water to be used in a town
  • Chemical balance in the water must be stable
  • Area and water must be considerably safe before being used to treat the water

What are the impacts on the environment?
The chlorine that is used to disinfect the water is being released along with the waste water back into the environment and is killing off and making animals sick.

Minnesota lakes are being contaminated by the soil and rocks that are being eroded and drained into the waters which makes it harder for water treatment plants to clean the water and be safe enough for us to drink.
