PLANTS

  • Dominant on land
  • Diverse group
  • Inorganic to Organic

HOW DO THEY LIVE?

  • Absorb nutrients from water
  • Prevent water loss by cuticle
  • Reproduce on land

There are two different kind of plants: vascular and nonvascular.

Vascular plants (such as corn, roses, and ferns) have a special tissue organized to conduct food and water throughout structure.

On the other hand, nonvascular plants (mosses) don't have this tissue.

There are two types of plants in terms of producing seeds: angiosperm (produce seeds as flowers) and gymnosperm (don't produce seeds as flowers).

There are three different kinds of sexual reproduction: seedless plants, seed plants, and asexual plants.

Seedless vascular plant reproduction has efficient water and food conducting systems of vascular tissue. That way, they can reproduce sexually when a film of water covers the gametophyte.

Plants with Seed Reproduction have spores not getting released. They remain in the tissue of the sporophyte. Then it develops into male gametophytes (sperm) and female gametophytes (egg cell). Thus developing into a seed.

Plants that reproduce asexually are genetically the same as there parent plant. Plants can reproduce asexually in a variety of ways that involve no reproductive parts called vegetive reproduction.

Vegetive reproduction is is faster than sexual reproduction in plants. It is a process by which new plant individuals arise or are obtained without production of seeds or spores.

But when do plants enter into our lives?

Plants that we use as food have nutrients to help our bodies get the nutrition that we need. Like carbohydrates, fats, protein, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds are all parts of the plant that are eaten everyday.

Plants are also used for different things other than food. Plants allow people to make wood, medicine, and fiber to make such things as paper and latex.

Foods like cereal, oatmeal, and bread are directly from plants.
