Nationalism

  • loyalty and devotion to ones nation

Militarism

  • political, military, and economic domination of strong nations over weaker territories

Alliances

  • a union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries or organizations

Allies

  • group of countries led by Britain, France, the U.S., and the Soviet Union that fought the Axis Powers in World War I

Propaganda

  • information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view

Ethnic Diversity

  • relating to or characteristic of a human group having racial, religious linguistic, and certain other traits in common

Isolationism

  • a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially the political affairs of other countries

War To End All Wars

  • world war I was called "war to end all wars" because there were people who felt that it would lead to the destruction of the sorts of governments and attitudes that caused war

Self-Determination

  • the right of people to choose their own form of government

Mobilization

  • the action of a country or its government preparing and organization troops for active service

Home Front

  • the civilian population and activites of a nation whose armed forces are engaged in war abroad

Contraband

  • supplies captured from an enemy during wartime

Communism

  • a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs
