Downsides of Noom

Noom puts foods into colored categories depending on their calorie density. Putting foods into “good” and “bad” categories might not be the best way to lose weight because people would feel bad if they eat a “bad” food when it could be in moderation.

Advantages of Noom

Positive reviews of Noom are because you can choose the types of food you eat, but you have guidance of making better choices. Instead of someone setting a strict diet to stay on that is hard for most people. It also allows people to say more accountable.

FEATURES ON NOOM

  • Group chat- members of the app talk about their successes, setbacks, meals, workouts, and ask questions.
  • Goal coach check ins- done within the app and usually just a few brief texts about previous and future goals. They help make your goals realistic and encourage you to meet the goals. Your goal coach is available more of you need it.
  • Weight logging- reminders for the day you’re supposed to do the workouts
  • Food logging- search for certain food and meals or create new meals

Does Noom actually work?

About 80% of people who use the app say they’ve lost weight. They also found that people who logged what they had for dinner lost more weight than those who didn’t track what they ate— this is probably from late night snacking. Noom isn’t just a quick fix but allows you to learn healthy habits that are long term.

Personal opinion: I think Noom is one of the better mobile dieting apps. It’s different than other weight loss apps and has a lot of different features that sets it apart. It also focus on their mental health along with their physical health by losing weight in a safe way.
