THE SYMPTOMS OF BODY DYSMORPHIC DISORDER
- Obsessive thoughts about a perceived appearance defects
- Obsessive and compulsive behaviors related to a perceived appearance defect
- Major depressive disorder symptoms
- Social and family withdrawal, social phobia, loneliness and self imposed social isolation.
- Suicidal ideation, chronic low self-esteem, anxiety possible panic attacks

THE MANY PEOPLE WITH BDD
- BDD is associated with high rates of hospitalization 48% and high rates of suicidal ideation and attempts
- BDD is reported in 45-79% of those with BDD, primarily due to history of suicidal ideation past due suicide attempts are reported in 22-24%
- BDD affects 24% of the general population! it's more common than schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
