PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Word Wizard

  • Geologists: scientist that study Earth
  • Seismic: caused by or subject to earthquakes
  • Basalt: dark usually fine grained volcanic rock
  • Canister: small box made of metal
  • Beam: a long heavy piece of steel

WORD WIZARD

  • Tar: a sticky substance
  • Plaster: A Healy purpose
  • Radiation:the direct transfer of energy of energy through space by electromagnetic waves
  • Conduction:the direct transfer of heat between two substances that are touching
  • Convection:the transfer of heat between two substances that are touching

WORD WIZARD

  • Convection:the transfer of heat by the movement of a fluid
  • Density:the amount of mass of a substance in a given volume;mass per unit volume
  • Convection currents:the movement of a fluid that transfers heat from one part of a fluid to another
  • Mantle:a layer of hot solid material between substances that are touching
  • Lithosphere: a ridged most of the uppermost part of the crust

WORD WIZARD

  • Continental drift- land that broke apart
  • Pangaea- all land
  • Fossil- a bone of rock
  • Glossopteris- a fern like plant from 250 million years ago
  • Hypothesis- an idea or prediction

WORD WIZARD

  • Climate-relating to or causing weather conditions
  • Continent- one of 7 large land masses on earth surface

WORD WIZARD

  • Plate: one of the large layers of rock
  • Plate tectonics: plates moving causing volcanos
  • Fault: breaks in earth's crust
  • Spreading boundary:place where two plates move apart
  • Rift Valley: it's a deep valley forms along spreading boundary

SUMMARIZER

  • The oceanic crust is made up of basalt.
  • The continental crust is made up of granite.
  • The crust, mantle, and inner core are solids.
  • The outer core is the only section which a liquid.
  • The inner core is solid because of all of the pressure.

SUMMARIZER

  • Radiation energy through space.
  • Conduction is heat that transfers with materials.
  • Convection is heat that transfers with movement.
  • Density is measure of how much mass.
  • Convection currents is heat that transfers with fluid.

SUMMARIZER

  • Wengener wanted to solve the continent puzzle
  • Wengener noticed that mountains ranges lined up
  • They found simaliar fossils in differ continent
  • They rejected Alfred's thoughts because he didn't have proof
  • 30 years later geologists found more proof about Pangea

SUMMARIZER

  • Two plates move apart is called a spreading boundary
  • A deep valley called a Rift Valley forms along the spreading boundary
  • Where the two plates collide is called a colliding boundary
  • The movement of earth's plates has greatly changed earth's surface
  • Faults are breaks in earth's crust where rocks have slipped past each other

DISCUSSION DIRECTOR

  • They form mountains ,rift valley and any other features
  • Plate tectonics causes earthquakes, volcanoes and etc.
  • Fault is created when two plates slide together
  • Plates are cracks that break the lithosphere
  • Yes because sea floor spreading is pushing the continents together

DISCUSSION DIRECTOR

  • Earthquakes cause seismic waves.
  • The difference from the lithosphere and the asthenosphere is that the lithosphere is rigid.
  • The mantle is made up of silicon, oxygen, iron, and magnesium.
  • Pressure increases when you go deeper because of all of the weight.

DISCUSSION DIRECTOR

  • Gravity pulls down the heat after it goes up
  • Convection currents cause motion within a fluid
  • Sunlight is a type of radiation
  • Mantle rock flows because it Is hot,it doesn't sink because it is not that dense
  • The mantle and core are like soup in a pot.

DISCUSSION DIRECTOR

  • The climate must of been all mixed up as a supercontinent
  • The animals probably died after continental drift because of the weather.
  • If we were a supercontinent the time, culture, climate, and technology would all be different.
  • We think the Earth will some day become a supercontinent because it is constantly changing.
  • Scientist didn't believe Wegener's because they had other ideas.

CONNECTOR

  • A hamburger reminded me of the Earth because of it's layers.
  • The core is like a fire because of all of the heat.
  • Metal reminds me of a pot when I once got burned.
  • Pizza is also like the Earth because of it's layers.

CONNECTER

  • The part in the book where the spoke about Pangea reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle
  • The part of the book where they talk the continents reminds of when you drop a hard boiled egg it's shell cracks but not the inside
  • The part of the book where they talk about Pangea reminds me of when you break a plate and try to fix it the pieces fit together perfectly

CONNECTOR

  • This part of the book where they regent Wegener's ideas reminds me of when Martin Luther king jr thought segregation was wrong.most people thought it was wrong sadly people didn't realize till he died
  • The part of the book where Wegener had a theory about continents fitting to together reminds me of how a jigsaw puzzle fits together
  • The. Part. Of the book where Wegener proves the scientist wrong reminds me of how a lawyer proves his opponent wrong

Researcher
Wegener noticed that the coasts of Western Africa and Eastern South America looked like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, but he wasn't the first to notice.

Researcher:
Juan de Fuca plate is subducting under the North American Plate at the Cascadia subduction zone. The plate is one of the smallest ones, it's a remnant part of the once-vast Farallon Plate.
