THE ANDES MOUNTAINS


The Andes mountains are found on the western edge of South America, from Venezuela all the way along chile to South America's Southern tip (about 9000 km in all.)

Climate and vegetation

Climate changes with elevation: near the equator, the climate at the lowest elevations is tropical. Midway is more temperate or mild climate.

At elevations over 15,000 feet you would encounter extremely low temperatures and icy winds.

The Pampas of South America are a grassland biome. They are flat, fertile plains that covers an area of 300,000 sq. miles or 777,000 square kilometers, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Andes Mountains. It is found primarily in Argentina and extends into Uruguay.
