JAMES MADISON ORIGINALLY WROTE 19 AMENDMENTS

  • The House narrowed them to 17
  • The Senate then narrowed them to 12
  • Those 12 were sent to the states
  • The Bill of Rights were the 10 that made it through
  • Virginia became the 10th out of 14th to ratify the Bill of Rights

  • Restricting weapons is unnecessary
  • Further background screening should be used
  • Weapons are necessary to use against government tyranny and for self defense

  • Supreme Court Case
  • By a 5 to 4 vote, the Court held that the 2nd Amendment protects a person's right to posses firearms for lawful use
  • D.C. banned handguns, but was reversed after this court session
