PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Chlamydia is a bacteria. When an infection is present, the bacteria can be present in the cervix, urethra, vagina, and rectum, of an infected person. Any type of sexual contact with an infected person can spread the infection.
It is spread by mother to baby by pregnancy, labor, or nursing also by unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
SYMPTOMS IN A MALE
- Pain, discomfort, 'burning sensation' when urinating.
- Inflammation, tenderness and pain in and around the testicles.
SYMPTOMS IN A FEMALE
- Burning with urination
- Abdominal or pelvic pain is sometimes present.
- Blood in the urine, urinary urgency (feeling an urgent need to urinate), and increased urinary frequency can occur if the urethra is infected.
Antibiotics is a way to treat Chlamydia.
EXTRA FACTS
- Chlamydia may also be present in the throat.
- Very common among adults and teens
- Most common in ages 14-40
