FACTS

  • Class aves
  • Feathered, 2-legged
  • Winged
  • Warm-blooded invertebrates

CLASS

  • Approximately 10,000 species
  • Range in size from 2in to 9ft
  • Only living Clades that originated from earliest dinosaurs

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Have beaks and no teeth the shape tells you their diet
  • All lay eggs made of calcium and a hardened layer of mucus
  • Most have hollow bones to keep them light
  • Many bones are fused to help brace the wings during flight

REPRODUCTION

TRAITS

  • They can see colors
  • Have downed feathers
  • They can sing
  • Most build nests

FLIGHTLESS BIRDS

  • Some can't fly and nest on the ground
  • Some can run fast and are good swimmers
  • Some can kick
