SHAHADA-PROFESSION OF FAITH

SHAHADA

• Islamic oath, establishes monotheism, and Muhammad as the prophet
• First thing an infant hears(whispered into ear)
• Last thing a Muslims hears(if possible)

SALAT-5 DAILY PRAYERS

SALAT

• Wudu-washing before praying
• Pray towards Kaa’ba in Mecca
• Needs clean place to pray, needs prayer rug(or dusting off sand in desert)
• Muslims- no day off
• Call to prayer by muezzin

ZAKAT:CHARITY

Zakat

• Muslims donate about one-fortieth(or about 2.5%) of earnings
• Surplus, more is encouraged
• Purification(of wealth)
• Good Karma
• Can go towards soup kitchens, school fees, teachers, clothing ect.

SAWM-FASTING DURING RAMADAN

Sawm

• Big meal after sunset
• Good deeds—charity, praying, forgiving
• Children, elderly, sick are excused
• At end of month(Eid) big party
• Time for affection, spiritual recharging

HAJJ-PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA

HAJJ

• Men-ihram(2 piece white ‘blankets’)Women-modest clothing
• Much circle Kaa’ba 7 times
• Pray on mount Arafat
• Run between hills
• Drink from the Zamzam
