Why I chose this Article
I chose this article because I’ve been hearing a lot about climate change recently, and I wanted to learn more about some effects on animals. Also, I think penguins are adorable, and I don’t want to lose them!

About The Article
According to this article the second-largest colony of Emperor penguins is almost gone. This happened because, "Emperor penguins at the Halley Bay colony in the Weddell Sea have failed to raise chicks for the last three years," said Peter Fretwell, co-author of the report done by British Antarctic Survey. That’s a long time! What caused this is global warming, and how humans impact the environment.

CAUSES

  • Food sources are changing because of climate change
  • Mating areas and chicks are affected by climate change

Importance
Many animals and plants are affected by climate change. Because of global warming, prey of the penguins in Antarctica are changing habitats. Some penguins starve because there is no food. Other times, chicks don’t survive because of global warming. Puddles of rain could drown them. This amount of emperor penguins is so significant. In the future, emperor penguins and other animals could go extinct, and that is why people should know about this event.

MY QUESTIONS FOR YOU

  • How could less penguins impact the ecosystem?
  • What can people do to help the emperor penguins (and global warming)?
