PEOPLE OF THE PLAINS

LOCATION/TERRITORIES-DATES (EMERGING/DECLINE)

  • NorthEastern North America
  • They primarily stayed in the Region that is today Manitoba, they also covered the Rocky Mountains
  • Nomadics lived in region 10,000 years ago, civilization first inhabited in 200 AD
  • Demised in the mid 1800s during the expansion of the USA
  • Though they primarily stayed in Northern region, they also covered as far down as Mexico

ECONOMY-TRADE(PRODUCTS/PARTNERS)

  • They primarily grew wheat and cotton and traded to different, neighboring tribes
  • When the Europeans landed in their territory, they were given horses in trade of their crops
  • Horses allowed them to carry more provisions and move faster
  • They hunted primarily buffalo for food or pelt, they traded buffalo to other tribes
  • Thanks to Agriculture, they were able to grow crops and strong bonds with other tribes

ENVIRONMENT (WEATHER/RESOURCES..) SHELTER/STRUCTURES

  • Sleeped in tall tipis
  • Lived in highly elevated locations(Rocky Mountains)
  • The plains people had to face snow during winter, and intense heat every other season
