EPILEPSY

  • Epilepsy is a common condition that affects over 200,000 people in the US a year
  • Epilepsy is a condition that causes seizures to those who are afflicted by it

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • Epilepsy affects the nervous system, it does this by afflicting the person with seizures, which makes one act involuntarily
  • Epilepsy is a nervous disorder since it involves the nerves and brain

SYMPTOMS

  • The primary symptom of epilepsy is having seizures, although having a seizure doesn’t mean having epilepsy
  • There are many different types of seizures, but the most common with epilepsy is the focal seizure, they can make one see, hear, or feel things that are not there

CAUSES

  • Genetics
  • Head trauma
  • Brain conditions
  • Diseases
  • Prenatal injury
  • Development problems

DIAGNOSIS

  • Neurological exams
  • Blood tests
  • Electroencephalogram, which is a very common test to diagnose epilepsy

TREATMENT

  • The sole way of treating epilepsy is with anticonvulsant pills, pills which stop most seizures, though some still can occur

PROGNOSIS

  • The main prognosis(side effect) of epilepsy is unfortunately a premature death

PREVENTION

  • The best way to prevent epilepsy is to keep clean and consistently wash your hands
