WRITE AWAY: First impressions

  • How do we form our impressions of people? Are they ever wrong? Write about a time you were wrong about someone and/or a time someone was wrong about you.

Hemingway's ICEBERG Theory:
—readers see only what is above the water—but the knowledge that the author has about the character that never makes it into the story acts as the bulk of the iceberg. And that is what gives a story weight and gravitas.

Write Away: RISK

  • What Different kinds of risks can you think of? Why is it important to take them? What Risks have you taken in your life? List a few, then Write about one risk you took that paid off.

Turn-it-in Day!

  • 1. Change the font color of your assertion
  • Does it include title and author?
  • avoid the first person?
  • include an observation about imagery and an interpretation?

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.
