• First major land battle
• 387 killed 1582 wounded and13 missing

BATTLE OF ANTIIETAM

• Known as Sharpsburg
• Fought on Wednesday 10/17/1862
• Bloodiest 1 day battle in American history
• 22,717 dead wounded and missing on both sides combined

BATTLE OF SHILOH

• Each side lost the battle and gained ground
• It was two days
• The union gained control of the Mississippi River

THE SIEGE AT VICKSBURG

• Lasted about six week
• Confederates were Hungry so they surrendered
• The Mississippi River was now under union control

• Confederate held states

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

• Started in July 1 1863
• Over half of the confederate we're killed
