  • She is the daughter of a mohawk warrior (Lily of the Mohawks)
  • Every morning she stood in front of the chapel &stayed for each service each sunday
  • She is the first native american to be a saint
  • She is the patroness of the environment and ecology
  • She dedicated her life to prayer, caring for the sick, and penitential practices

Life and Dignity of the Human Person
Kateri cared for others more than herself. She was devoted to the church. The lifestyle she lived was sacred.

A Jesuit missionary converted her, and then her relatives shunned her. Her supporters were the people of the church and Pope Benedict XVI.

Kateri had smallpox herself. The disease transfigured her face. She was a true Native American legacy to her culture. She had great faith. She made an impact on the world and church.

Another interesting fact about Kateri is that minutes after her death, witnesses say her scars disappeared and she appeared radiant and beautiful.
