Do they exist? Many of the monumental architectures in this time period exist due to the fact that they were made of stone. Many of the buildings were Roman Catholic Churches
Most Important Monument The most important monument to me is the Cologne Cathedral. The gothic architecture makes it stand out against other buildings. It was once the largest church in the 1800s due to the long construction. There were many different times of construction from 1248 to 1880.
The Ming Dynasty Started 1368 - Ended 1644 The monumental architecture depicts power. The greater and the brighter the architecture, the more over someone had.
Do They Still Exist? Both monuments still exist in China today. The Great Wall was used for great protection against others. The Forbidden City was to house the imperial palace of Ming emperors.
Most Memorable? The most memorable architectural monument is The Forbidden City. This is where all of the emperors and empresses of the Ming Dynasty lived. It is in the middle of Beijing. The Forbidden city was used for 500 years
The two civilizations used the structures in somewhat similar ways. They both were very important and were based around what was important to the people at the time, such as God and the emperors. They were different in the fact that the Cologne Cathedral was open to any Roman Catholic in the area but the Forbidden City was blocked to anyone that wasn't of royal importance.
The Purpose? The purpose of monumental architecture is to show the culture and legacy through anything man-made. They are immediately identifiable and have a great meaning. Both of the structures I chose fulfilled this purpose. They were well known of, still are, and are or were at one point the largest of that one type of structure.
