The American Revolution

Lead up to Revolution

  • It took more then a decade for the revolution to actually happen.
  • Tensions between the colonists and British government started to build up.

Why?

  • The British tried taxing the colonist which lead to protest from them instead.
  • Mobs appeared often, but, in December of 1773 the British opened fire on them and killed five colonist. This was known as the Boston massacre.

What happened after?

  • Colonists dressed up like Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor in 1773. This was the Boston tea party.
  • After two years delegates met in Philadelphia in 1775; they decried that everyone was being taxed without representations.

Congress Decision

  • The continental congress decided to meet up again in 1775 but by April of that year militia men made a clash with the British men.

The battles

  • The battles or clashes in concord and Lexington represented the beginning of the American revolution.

After many battles

  • Lots of battles have been fought and eventually the war ended with the Americans being victorious.
  • The treaty of Paris is signed and the end of the war happens in Yorktown, making us an independent country.
