REPORT:

JUSTIFICATION/RECOMMENDATION

In this presentation we will be discussing Justification/Recommendation Reports. We will go over their purpose, components, & different ways of organizing them.

Purpose: to justify or recommend something. Also called 'internal proposals' due to persuasive nature.

An example of this would be buying equipment, changing a procedure, hiring an employee.

COMPONENTS:

DIRECT AND INDIRECT

  • Brief introduction to problem
  • Presents recommendations immediately
  • Justification of recommendation by explanation of product & benefits
  • Numbered lists if applicable
  • More detailed explanation of recommendation (specifies action)

  • Discussion of pros, cons, & costs
  • Summary specifying recommendation/ necessary action

INDIRECT:

  • Introduction to purpose, method of data collection
  • Uses headings that combine function/description
  • MlA style citation (intext) for author and page number
  • Alternatives discussed in order-least to most effective
