THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

SHAHADAH

• Allah is the only god
• Muhammad is Allah's prophet
• No one but Allah deserves worship
• Basic fundamental belief that makes a Muslim

SALAT

• The rule of worshiping five times a day
• Between first light and sunrise
• Noon, eavning sun, sunset, midnight
• Each prayer is five minutes

ZAKAT

• Compulsory charity
• The gifted shall give
• The love of wealth is relinquished
• Th gift of giving is endured

SAWM

• Lasts from dawn-sunset
• Abstain from pork, alcohol, and smoking
• (Fasting)
• Getting closer to Allah

HAJJ

• Paying pilgrimage to the holy city Mecca
• occurs during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah
• Gives expression of devotion towards Allah
• Basically penance; is the ultimate forgiveness of sins
