PEARL HARBOR CASUALTIES

On November 26, 1941, the Japanese attack force, led by Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo, left Etorofu Island in the Kurils (located northeast of Japan) and began its 3,000-mile journey across the Pacific Ocean. Sneaking six aircraft carriers, nine destroyers, two battleships, two heavy cruisers, one light cruiser, and three submarines across the Pacific Ocean was a risky plan.

Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was also responsible for planning the attack on Pearl Harbor and most other major operations during this time. His scheme for eliminating the U.S. fleet as a major opponent led to the June 1942 Battle of Midway, in which the Japan lost naval superiority in the Pacific.

Japans plan of attack

At 12:30 am Franklin Delano Roosevelt addresses the nation about a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.

Also that day US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave his speech day of infamy to the United States of Representatives.
