NICHOLAS COPERNICUS

  • Reasoned that the stars, the earth, & all the other planets revolved around the sun
  • Heliocentric didn't explain why the planets orbited the way they did.
  • studied planetary movements for more then 25 years

JOHANNES KEPLER

  • Brilliant mathematican..
  • He concluded mathematical laws govern planetary movement
  • His law showed that Copernicus's basic ideas were true.

GALIEO GALILEI

  • sat in a cathedral closely watching a chandelier swing on its chain
  • he found out that a falling object accelerates at a fixed & predictable rate
  • played a major role in the scientific revolution

SIR FRANCIS BACON

  • English politician & writer
  • believed that by better understanding the world scientists would improve netted knowledge
  • the first scientist to receive a knighthood
