  • When the 1950s are mentioned, the first type of music to come to most people's minds is rock 'n' roll.
  • The music Developed from a blend of Southern blues and gospel music with an added strong back beat.
  • Some of the most famous musicians from this era are frank Sinatra and Elvis.

  • Some of the best movies from this period are The day the earth stood still, dial m for murder,
  • Creature from the black lagoon, invasion of the body snatchers, it's a wonderful life.

BASEBALL

  • Some of the best players from this era were Yogi Berra, hank Aaron, willie mays, Mikey mantel
  • Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, joe DiMaggio, ted Williams
  • Between 1940 and 1959 the Yankees won 10 World Series champion ships
  • They also won 5 in a row between 1949 and 1953

FOOTBALL

  • Though the Super Bowl was not invented yet the nfl still had a championship game every year
  • Between 1940 and 1946 the Chicago bears won 4 championships

  • The Minneapolis lakers dominated the NBA in the early years winning 5 titles between 1948-1954.
  • Pro golf became very popular in the 50s especially with players like Arnold Palmer.

TELEVISION

  • In the 50s sitcoms like the honeymooners were introduced.
  • There were also shows like the Ed Sullivan show and the 50s saw the birth of Disney.
  • At the end of WWII there were only 5000 TVs but by 1951 there were over 17 million.
  • We were also brought tom and jerry in 1940
