PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Day of the Dead is a celebration of life not death. It is not Halloween. It was originated in ancient Mesoamerica. Mesoamericans believed in the afterlife, death was not the end, it was just a part of a journey. The ofrenda is way to honored the loved ones that passed away by placing pictures of them, items that belonged to them, and placing their favorite foods.
On November 3, 2018 I attended at The Day of the Dead Festival. The instructor introduced us how to make sugar /skulls. We first added a full bag of sugar, then one and a half of meringue powder. Lastly but not least, we added seven tablespoons of water.
We created many skulls by using the skull skeleton mold. It was important to push the sugar deep into the skull, so it could fill in the edges
This is the result of creating a sugar skull. It is necessary that the skulls dry for at least twenty four hours. If one does not not let it dry up, the skull will not come out right.
After making the sugar skulls, we set the skulls aside. The instructor brought skulls that were already dried up, and it was time for the fun part. It was time to decorate the skull. It was better to garnish the skull with frosting than paint.
