MECHANISM OF ACTION
Serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitors (SARIs) are a class of drugs used mainly as antidepressants, but also as anxiolytics and hypnotics. They act by antagonizing serotonin receptors such as 5-HT2A and inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and/or dopamine.

PATIENT TEACHING

• Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: black stools, "coffee ground" vomit, easy bruising/bleeding.
• To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly.
• Use cautiously in elderly
• Alcoholic beverages can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug. Limit alcohol intake.
• Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
