ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

CLASSIFICATION

  • This was called the Armenian Genocide
  • It was around the time of 1915-1920
  • The main leader was Ismail Enver

SYMBOLIZATION

  • Turks vs. Armenians
  • The Turks persecuted the Armenians
  • The Armenians were forced to wear a different color of clothing then everyone else
  • The Armenians were 2nd class citizens and called infidels or unbelievers

DEHUMANIZATION

  • The Turks started to deny that the Armenians were human
  • They began to cruelly mistreat the Armenians
  • Civil laws began and restricted the Armenians

ORGANIZATION

  • The Turks began to organize into groups.
  • At first the groups were to persecute and then they began to kill
  • Some groups were "The Butcher Battalion", and the "Young Turk Party"
  • Mass militias were also deployed to the country

POLARIZATION

  • The Turks published and sent out propoganda
  • They claimed that the Armenians worked with their enemy (Russia)
  • The Turks forbid the intermarriage of the two races
  • The second class division got worse

IDENTIFICATION

  • Victims were identified and segregated from other people.
  • Their properties were taken and burned.
  • Deportation of the Armenians began and massacres became evident.

EXTERMINATION

  • The people were marched across the desert without food or water.
  • Anyone who stopped would be shot on the spot.
  • 5,000 were butchered in the streets and left to decompose.
  • Armenians in the army were disarmed and placed in factories.
  • The people were forced to work as pack animals and worked to death.

DENIAL

  • The worlds greatest powers reacted half heartedly
  • March 2010, U.S congressional panel voted to recognize it
  • Turkish gov. today denys that the genocide took place.
