ATHLETES DEBATE BY LESLIE TANG AND MARIA RAMIREZ

SHOULD ATHLETES GO TO COLLEGE BEFORE BECOMING A PRO?

Our Opinion

We support that athletes should go to college at least a year before entering as a professional.

Reason 1
Fallback
If an athlete does end up becoming pro, they can get injured and end their sports career. So, it is good to have some education to get a backup job.

MINOR EDUCATION HELPS

  • Be a coach
  • Make good use of business finance
  • Health and physical education is a big help
  • Become a musician

Reason 2
Maturity:
These athletes may not be mature enough. If they're 17/18 and they've won a game, these kids are going to go back to the hotel and play games rather than going with the pros to the club and party.

Reason 3
*Most student athletes don't make it to college sports.
*Better to have another route.
*Don't be too late to start fresh
*Regret.

SUMMARY

  • Fallback
  • Maturity
  • Less opportunity (Regret new path)
