FESTIVALS IN CHINA

CHINESE NEW YEAR

  • It is also known as the Spring Festival
  • Celebrated in: Mainland China, Hong Kong,Macau, Taiwan, Singapore,Thailand
  • Celebrated at the turn of the lunisolar Chinese calendar

LANTERN FESTIVAL

  • celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar year
  • During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns
  • is the celebration of "the declining darkness of winter" and community's ability to "move about at night with human-made light," namely, lanterns.

QINGMING FESTIVAL

  • Also know as tomb-sweeping day
  • on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar
  • Cleaning and sweeping of graves, ancestor worship
  • burning joss paper
  • offering food to deceased

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

  • also known as the Tuen Ng or Duanwu Festival
  • a traditional and statutory holiday originating in China
  • now occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional lunar calendar

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

  • celebrated by ethnic Chinese and Vietnamese people
  • on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese Han calendar
  • In the Vietnamese culture, it is considered the second-most important holiday tradition after Tết.[citation needed]
