48% of people that are in a dream are recognized by the person dreaming. What goes through our mind right before we fall asleep could effect the context of our dreams.
Some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning and are nonsensical activities of the sleeping brain. Others say dreams are necessary for mental, emotional, and physical health.
During stage 1, which is light sleep, we drift in and out of sleep and can be awakened easily. Our eyes move very slowly and muscle activity slows. Many people also experience sudden muscle contractions called hyping myoclonia, often preceded by a sensation of starting to fall.
By stage 4, the brain produces delta waves almost exclusively. It is very difficult to wake someone during stages 3 and 4, which together are calleddeep sleep. There is no eye movement or muscle activity. People awakened during deep sleep do not adjust immediately and often feel groggy and disoriented for several minutes after they wake up.
When we switch into REM sleep (or stage 5), our breathing becomes more rapid, irregular, and shallow, our eyes jerk rapidly in various directions, and our limb muscles become temporarily paralyzed. Our heart rate increases, and our blood pressure rises. When people awaken during REM sleep, they often describe bizarre and illogical tales – dreams
I was 90 years old and I had a cane, I was on the top of the school and I dropped my cane. Then I couldn't walk and I fell off the school and died.... Then I woke up.
I got kidnapped by a family of elephants. I got into the car with the elephants. A big purple monster started chasing us. The elephants died but I killed the monster. I woke up right when I saw that my house was on fire.
If you dream of being kidnapped, this is related to feelings of lack of expression. You may feel you are being held back. To see fire in your dream can symbolize destruction, passion or anger.
I accidentally killed my sister and she came back and haunted me, then I eventually had people come to have her ghosts leave me alone, then I ended up riding out of my house on a unicorn.
Dreams about murder may be releasing anger towards someone or something, or possibly yourself. To see a ghost in your dream may represent something that is no longer within your reach. It indicates that you are feeling disconnected from life and society.
Dreams about being trapped, feeling lost with no way out, or being unable to move are quite common. These dreams often indicate frustrations you may feel in your waking life, or indicating something or someone holding you back. If a llama shows up in your dreams, it might represent deep trust, strength and insurance. It may also mean you are worrying too much and crafting too many problems.
