HOW IT BEGAN

HITLERS RISE TO POWER

At the end of World War One Germany's economy was demolished some people like Hitler blamed the economy failing on the Jews. In 1933 Hitler became the chancellor of Germany which was bad news for Jewish people.

EARLY 1920'S

HITLER YOUTH

The orgins of Hitler Youth date all the way back to the 1920's. Young boys in Hitler Youth learned about how Jews are "evil" and other things, such as how to identify a Jew and the difference between a Jew and a German. Hitler Youth was optional until it became required.

Jews were forced to leave their homes and moved into ghettos. Ghettos were where poor people lived they had gates and fences around them. They were forced to do heavy labor. Eventually Germans invaded these ghettos and murdered the Jews where they were taken to concentration camps.

CONCENTRATION CAMPS

1940's

Concentration camps were put into place by Hitler in the early 1940's. This is where Jews were forced to do heavy labor until they were eventually gassed. Not everyone in here was Jewish though, some of them are non-Jews who hid Jews in their houses.

NUREMBURG LAWS

SET OF LAWS ON HOW TO DETERMINE A JEW

The Nuremburg Laws were a set of laws placed in 1935 by Hitler on how to identify a Jewish person.

Heres how it worked:
Say you have 3-4 Jewish grandparents. You'd be considered a Jew. If you only have 2 Jewish grandparents you're what was called a "mixed blood"

The black dots are a Jewish person, the right two collumns are people with 3-4 Jewish grandparents, the middle is mixed blood, the first is completely German, and the second is one Jewish grandparent.

Hitler and his followers believed that if they could get rid of the Jews Germany's economy would be revived. Because of this Jewish people faced discrimination in many ways such as people boycotting their shops. Hitler told people to only shop at German places.
