Do's and Dont's

Be Positive!

Students follow your lead!

PSSA Do's

  • Read the Directions for Administration Manual
  • Cover everything in room
  • Make sure you monitor constantly
  • Follow test security and administration guidelines
  • Place a "Testing-Do Not Disturb" sign on outside door
  • Have a work packet prepared for when students finish the test section
  • Supervise students at all times-never let tests out of sight
  • Pick-up and Start "ON TIME"!
  • Return completed tests immediately upon finishing each day
  • Only complete 1 section each day
  • Call for a hall proctor if student is ill or needs bathroom
  • Ask students if they checked all answers before turning in - do not look yourself
  • Make sure students return test booklet, score sheet, pencils, highlighters and scrap paper to baggie before turning back in to you- return to bin and mark student checklist paper in bin - mark anyone who was absent and list what section they missed
  • If not sure about something - call office for help - don't guess
  • Report any mis-hap to the office and they will contact Ms. Harvey.
  • Congratulate students at the end of each section for persevering and trying their hardest

  • Read any part of the test to students except directions
  • Never check a student's book
  • Never break a seal to a section ahead of time
  • Work on a computer or have your cell phone out in your room during testing
  • Copy or reproduce any part of secure tests
  • Return test bins without checking each test bag is returned every day
  • Allow students to have cell phones or computers during testing
  • Instruct students to use a test-taking technique that would require them to bubble or strike through more than one response to a test question and then return and erase all but one response
  • Assist in, direct, aid, counsel, encourage, or fail to report immediately any of the actions prohibited in the administration manuals
  • Do not show or share any nervousness on your part - ever!

  • Instruct students to use a test-taking technique that would require them to bubble or strike through more than one response to a test question and then return and erase all but one response
  • Do not show or share any nervousness on your part - ever!
  • Do not forget to tell students how you were so pleased they worked so hard and took their time on each section.

Test Security

  • Pick up test bins on Time
  • Check your bin and sign paperwork when picking up and returning bin
  • Never leave bin in an unlocked room
  • If student damages test booklet or answer sheet- call office for assistance
  • If we have to evacuate the building during testing, do not collect tests- leave everything on desks but lock classroom door before leaving
  • If we have to evacuate and you've already collected the tests, lock the bin in a closet and lock classroom door.
  • Remember -you cannot read anything to a student, help with vocab, or pronouncing a word. You cannot give any clues or advice, etc. You only can read directions (except Spec. Ed. teachers per accommodations).
  • Do not send anyone out of your room without an adult escort who carries their test.
  • Wait for directions before sending anyone to the extra time room(s) -they need to be escorted.
  • Report testing irregularities/security breaches to Ms. Harvey as soon as possible.
  • Make sure that sections/modules are started and completed the same day.
  • Keep voice inflections neutral of an allowable or required accommodation is to read portions of the test aloud. (Only Special Education teachers)
  • No student should enter your room after 8:20 AM until testing is finished.

Testing Information

  • Testing days are "Black out" days for staff
  • Schedules will be discussed in early April once small groups are made
  • MS students will eat lunch in classrooms on testing days
  • Teachers will eat lunch with students

Information

  • Some of you will test administrators, others will be proctors
  • Students arriving to school after 8:20 AM will be sent to room 229 during testing
  • Testing schedules supercede planning periods, and regular schedules
  • Movies need prior approval to be shown during testing days
  • You can take your class outside weather permitting after testing & lunch
  • Practice walk-throughs will occur the first week of April -so students know where to go after homeroom on testing days
  • Clubs will continue during testing weeks

Reminders

  • Do not discuss, disseminate, or otherwise reveal the contents of the test to anyone.
  • Alter, influence, or interfere with a test response in any way, fill in any unanswered item, or instruct the student to do so.
  • Do not erase or change student answers.
  • READ, READ, READ your Manuals!!!
  • PSTAT certificates must be submitted by tomorrow at noon.
