PRESENTATION OUTLINE
"No way and Oops" Interjections?
An Interjection is a word...
...or words used to express...
...strong emotion or excitement!
An interjection can
be one word or a
combination of words.
Interjections can be
formal and informal!
Often, we use an interjection in
place of a sentence.
Interjections can sometimes be
regarded as metaphors.
You must interpret the true meaning of an interjection.
Often, an interjection is used
at the beginning of a
sentence followed
by a statement!
Just about any word in English can be used as an interjection!
Remember, a complete sentence in English must contain at least one verb!
One very important element to interjections
is intonation!
What is “Intonation?”
It is the “rise and fall”
of our voice!
Students who study English,
are often challenged
with the use of intonation.
“No way” as an
interjection means
“No or absolutely not”.
"No way" can also be
used to show “disbelief
or an impossibility”.
Q: Can you loan me twenty dollars?
A: No way! You haven’t paid me back from the last time! (No)
Q: Did you see the comet in
the sky last night?
A: No way! I stared into the sky but, couldn’t see anything! (Disbelief)
Q: Did you see the dog jump
over that fence?
A: No way! That fence is twelve feet tall! (Impossibility)
“Oops” is used
when someone
makes a statement
about themselves.
It could be about surprise,
a small accident or
acknowledging a mistake made.
Oops! I didn’t know you were walking around the corner too! (Surprise)
Oops! I just dropped your cup on the floor!
(Small accident)
Oops! I misspelled my name on this document! (Mistake)
There are many more ways to use “Oops”. Ask your teacher to help you!
Intonation is also important
when expressing
your thoughts with
all Interjections!
