LATIN AMERICA INDEPENDENCE IN EL SALVADOR

TYPE COLONY

  • The colony were Spanish colonies

PURPOSE OF THE COLONY

  • Create missionaries
  • Spread Catholicism

THE LEADER WHO LEAD THE INDEPENDENCE

  • There were several leaders that lead the independence of Latin America
  • Simon Bolivar- leader of the Latin America Revolution
  • Pedro de Alvarado- conquered El Salvador.

OPPOSED GROUPS

  • Spain
  • Keep their colonies
  • Churches: wanted them to be all catholic

FOREIGN SUPPORT

  • El Salvador did not have any foreign help
  • El Salvador , with other countries of Central America declared its independence from Spain.
  • Hundras and Nicaragua

INDEPENDENCE

  • El Salvador, with other countries, declared its independence on September 15, 1821
  • Dissolved in 1838
  • Became an independent republic
  • Went their separate ways (became their own country)

AFTERWARDS

  • In1932 there was a peasant uprising
  • By Farabundo Marti, chief Feliciano Ama, and chief Francisco Sanchez
  • The government retaliated with a massive murder
  • Called the "Matanza"
  • Up till 1980 there were military dictators

AFTERWARDS

  • From 1980-1982 there was a civil war
  • The FMLN (Farabundo Marti National Liberation front) and the government
