Before the Golden Gate Bridge was built, the only practical short route between San Francisco and Marin County was by boat across a section of the San Francisco Bay. It took four years to build.
The bridge is named after the Golden Gate Strait, which is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.

Catalina Island is part of Los Angeles County. The streets are not wide enough for cars, so it is legal to drive on the road with golf carts. The only city on Catalina Island is Avalon.

When the park opened, admission was $1, according to PBS. It's now $99. As of 2014, the park had welcomed almost 700 million guests since opening. A time capsule was buried in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle on July 17th, 1995, for the park's 40th anniversary. The time capsule will be opened 50 years from when it was buried — on July 17th, 2045.
