  • Plants take root above the pebbles.
  • Adapted to strong current.

Streams and Rivers (Animals)

  • Fish are swift swimmers.
  • Insects have small hooks to cling to rocks.
  • Adapted to strong current.

Ponds and Lakes (Plants)

  • Algae floats at the top of the water to get sunlight.
  • Sunlight reaches the bottom so photosynthesis can occur.

Ponds and Lakes (Animals)

  • Scavengers lives on bottom.
  • Decomposers eat dead organisms.
  • Adapted to still waters.

Marine Ecosystems

Estuary, Intertidal Zone, Neretic Zone, Surface Zone, Deep Ocean Zone

Estuary

  • Fresh water of River meets salt water of Ocean.
  • Plants- provide shelter and food for animals.
  • Animals- use calm waters for breathing ground.

Intertidal Zone (Plants)

  • Plants have strong roots.
  • Adapted to pounding waves.
  • Adapted to sudden change in temperature.
  • Adapted to sudden change in water level.

Intertidal Zone (Animals)

  • Cling to Rocks.
  • Burrow in the sand.
  • Adapted to pounding waves.
  • Adapted to sudden change in temperature.
  • Adapted to sudden change in water level.

  • Photosynthesis  can occur.
  • Warm water
  • Shallow water

Neretic Zone (Animals)

  • Live in coral reefs
  • Travel in big groups
  • Feed on algae

Surface Zone (Plants)

  • Algae floats on top of the water.
  • Carries out photosynthesis.

Surface Zone (Animals)

  • Animals depend on algae to live.

Deep Zone (Plants)

  • Plants don't grow.
  • NO sunlight.
