ITALICS

  • Underline (italicize) the titles of books, magazines, etc
  • Italicize names of ships, trains, etc
  • The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank
  • You need to italicize Titanic
  • I read Harry Potter last night
  • You need to italicize Harry Potter

APOSTROPHES

  • Use an apostrophe to show possession
  • Use an apostrophe to make a contraction
  • Example: You can't hold your breath for ten minutes
  • Put an apostrophe after the n in cant to show a contraction
  • Example: That is the boy's lunch
  • Put an apostrophe after the y in boy to show possession
