In Minnesota at the time 60% of workers were women
Besides working women helped with the Red Cross, the Civilian defense, and sold war bonds

Men didn't like women wearing uniforms
Many states objected to this too

59,000 nurses served in the army nurse corps
nurses worked close to the front lines
More than 200 nurses were killed from the attack on Pearl Harbor

Women replace men at work
The women did everything
They worked at home, in factories, etc.

They worked long hours
They earned 40 shillings
Men were paid more than women

Some women worked on farms instead
They were known as land girls
They lived on the farms that they worked at
They wore uniforms
The land girls were payed 32 shillings per week

it was normal for quick marriages
Teenagers would marry their sweethearts
They did this right before the men went overseas
women managed their households
They also helped with war related organizations

ROSIE THE RIVETER
In WW2 the government promoted the ideal women worker
Her name was Rosie the Riveter
She was loyal, efficient, patriotic, and pretty
Their was even a popular song in 1942 called Rosie the Riveter
successful in the media and used in propaganda
