The Emancipation Proclamation was a document stating that slavery is to be stopped in the South. Abraham Lincoln directed it to the states that had seceded from the Union. All slaves are free. The slaves and the abolitionist were happy that there were no more slaves. The South wasn't happy. They were thinking how somebody can take our slaves from us. They were mad.
Appomattox Court house was the place of the signing of the surrender. It is currently located in Appomattox, Virginia. General Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865. The two men haven't seen each other for awhile. So Grant didn't execute or imprison any of the soldiers. He sent them of with some food for the soldiers and Robert E Lee went off.
The 13 amendment says that slavery is no longer allowed. It ratifies that a owning another human being is illegal.The senate passed this amendment on April 8 1864
The 14 amendment is about civil rights and everybody equal rights.It was for former slaves who weren't treated right. There was four sections of this amendment. One of the sections is about anybody born in the U.S.A is a citizien, no matter what race.
The 15 amendment says that the federal, or state cannot deny the right to vote to any race or color. The african-american were happy that they were allowed to vote, or have equal rights.
Robert Hickman was a African American born into slavery. Unlike most slaves, he taught himself to read and write. He helped slaves escape to Minnesota from the south. He later made a church. The first baptist church in St.Paul, Minnesota.
