"Several factors are driving the loss of the Himalayan Mountains and the Red Pandas. Population Growth, Livestock over grazing, increase in farming, unplanned development and use of too many natural resources.
Almost a quarter of the species, unique to the Himalayas could vanish by 2100. "The Red Pandas in the Himalayas are already facing severe habitat loss." The Himalayas have lost 15% of it's forest cover since 1970. Studies show that 2/3 of the Himalayas thick forests will disappear by 2100.
The population increase in the Himalayas have driven Red Pandas out of their habitat. The people have cut down miles of forest to urbanize and build in the area.
Himalayan forest cover will increase more than 40% between 1970-2100, driven mainly by reforestation programs such as the World Wildlife Fund. Commercial Logging has also put a halt to deforestation.
The World Wildlife Fund is working with governments and local communities to establish trans-border Forrest corridors to enable wildlife to migrate between protected areas in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. They expect the project to increase community participation in forest management and promote different sources of energy and income for locals.
" Large Scale Conservation efforts including reforestation and government enforced protection of remaining forest habitats are needed to prevent a wave of extinctions in the region."
Deforestation can be good and bad. For example, as our population is rising, we need more space to live, farm and build. We have to cut down trees to build new areas and to have space for locals and newcomers. This is positive because the small urban towns will not overpopulate and life will be easier in India, Bhutan and Nepal.
But obviously, deforestation is not perfect. It has many negative things too. It kills organisms, by wrecking their habitats. With no habitats they have nowhere to live and thrive. Which messes up Eco Systems because a predator will die and prey.
Another bad part about deforestation is it takes down miles and thousands of trees. The trees eliminate waste which is C02. Without c02, the air is thinner and there is a smaller amount of air for the people.
